Easy and autumnal adventure hikes with children in the Allgäu region
Autumn is simply a very special season, perhaps even our absolute favorite. The vibrant colors, the soft light, the cozy warmth by the fire, pumpkin dishes and pumpkin spice lattes – we can't get enough of it. As soon as the sun comes out and we have the time, we long to immerse ourselves in autumn, and so every year we search for the most beautiful autumn hikes in the Allgäu region with our children to capture the colors of nature.
Our tip: Autumnal 3-course picnic menu
How about a 3-course autumnal picnic with autumnal dishes in the lunchboxes as the highlight of your hike?
You will need:
- Our waterproof picnic blanket (the ground is often already damp in autumn)
-
Lunchbox with a cutting board lid for an appetizer, e.g. with homemade pumpkin spread, raw vegetables and bread.
-
Leakproof lunchbox for the main course, e.g., pumpkin and chickpea curry with rice
- Another bread box for dessert, e.g., pumpkin brownies - did you know that you can bake the cake directly in our bread boxes, as they are oven-safe?
-
Insulated bottle and enamel mug for hot coffee or tea
-
Half-filled spice bag with cutlery - you can fill a tube with pumpkin spice and pour it fresh over the coffee, it tastes sooooo good!
Radiant autumn colors in the moor
Bogs are worth a visit at any time of year, but especially in autumn they reveal themselves as a vibrant palette of fall colors. The vastness of the bog offers an open view across the landscape, where grasses, bilberries, heather, birches, and other plants and trees turn orange, yellow, and red. Sometimes, a high fog still hangs over the bog meadows, lending the seemingly eerie bog a mystical air.
Family-friendly moorland hikes
It's not just us adults who love the autumnal moor; children also have a blast hiking through it, because there's so much to discover! Mushrooms peek out from the colorful plants on the ground, the birch trees shed their small, colorful leaves and dance like a rain of leaves above us, the boardwalks across the marshy moorland are great fun to walk or ride on balance bikes, and the paths through many of the moorland trails are often stroller-friendly. If you have older children with you, the information panels along the moorland nature trails are always a great resource.
an exciting source of learning.
The high moor in Oberjoch in the Allgäu
In the Allgäu region, there are numerous opportunities to experience bogs with children. One of our favorite bog trails is the 1.5 km long high moor trail in Oberjoch in the Upper Allgäu. The fact that the bog trail is framed by an unbeatable mountain panorama makes this bog truly special. The short trail is particularly suitable for young children, as there are no inclines and it's even rideable with balance bikes. In addition, there are information panels, a place to stop for refreshments at the bog hut, and in summer, a detour through a cow pasture and a bog bath. The hike is also highly recommended in winter.

A motivational boost for the little hikers
Nature trails, marble run paths, puzzle trails, fairytale forests, and adventure hikes offer young children an extra boost of motivation and help us parents simplify hiking with our toddlers. For even more motivation, we recommend our Roadtyping Kids Mountain Passport or Adventure Passport . Here, children can search, solve puzzles, draw, and explore. Its small format, the same size and feel as a regular passport, fits easily into any backpack.
Now we wish you lots of fun hiking through the beautiful moorlands in autumn.
Mountain greetings,
Franzi & Marius
