Denmark - 33 Denmark Tips

Dänemark - 33 Dänemark Tipps
Old towns in contrast to imaginative, modern architecture, endless beaches and dunes and open-minded people make Denmark an incredibly beautiful travel destination.

Our Denmark tips and highlights

3 days in Denmark is definitely not enough! Denmark was actually just a transit country for us, but we definitely have to go there with plenty of time, because this country has so much to offer. Because we have already collected so many tips and are really keen to travel the country, we are sharing our highlights with you here.

33 Denmark Tips

1. Møgeltønder is a pretty little Danish village, best known for Schackenborg Castle and its church.

2. The inhabited island of Rømø with its wild beach and the possibility of driving on Lakolk Beach is worth a trip.

3. Ribe is the oldest city in Denmark.

4. The Seal Bank Walk Meeting Point is perfect if you want to see seals.

5. At Vejers Beach or a little further up at the car beach you can drive your car or camper onto the beach again.

6. At Hvide beach you can do great kite surfing or watch the kite surfers :-)

7. Legoland in Billund is the original Legoland and we particularly like the small Lego worlds here. In Billund there is also the new Lego House , which offers mainly interactive play areas, which older children in particular enjoy.

8. Ballesbækgård Besøgscenter is a great place to stop or spend the night. There are beautiful hiking trails, barbecue areas, a lake and lots and lots of sheep.

9. Vrads Station is a delicious restaurant in an old train station where historic trains from 1900 still pass by.

10. Naturfolk Denmark is the place to go for outdoor enthusiasts. It's actually a small online shop, but Betina and her daughter Natalie also offer outdoor events and workshops. A quick check on Instagram beforehand will tell you what there is currently to experience. Please register before you arrive.

11. Mønsted Kalkgruber is a former limestone quarry with guided tours and a small museum.

12. Bulbjerg is not only a particularly beautiful beach, but the crazy rock formations make the place a worthwhile trip.

13. In the seaside resort of Blokhus you can just let yourself drift and in summer, with a bit of luck, you might even see Neuschwanstein Castle built out of sand.

14. The seemingly endless beach and the white bathing huts in Løkken are also worth a visit.

15. At Lønstrup Beach you can capture many of the North Sea's atmospheres and take some walks in the dunes.

16. In the Råbjerg Mile nature reserve you can experience a shifting dune.

17. The town of Skagen is located in a very special place: this is where the North Sea and the Baltic Sea meet and the seas become one.

18. The pretty Dokkedal beach is a great place to stop off.

19. Among them is the campsite Søskib Ferie Plats , which is really pretty and close to nature.

20. Store Øksso is a beautiful lake, perfect for a hike or just being.

21. Just below is Store Blåkilde , the blue lagoon. It is only a short walk to this pretty spring.

22. Aarhus : This medium-sized city by the sea could almost be Copenhagen's little sister, as it is just as lively, young and attractive. Above all, the combination of a pretty old town and modern architecture with lots of young people make this city a small metropolis.

    • The old harbor district has been built up and is now a lively place with a harbor swimming pool, wakeboarding facility, restaurants, cafes, shops and casual student apartments surrounded by imaginative architecture. It's really fun to just let yourself go here.
    • The free motorhome parking area in Aarhus is located directly on the old harbor district and is perfectly located for exploring the modern district
    • The best place to explore the old town is around Studsgade , a lively street with lots of bars. Here you will find vintage stores, concept stores and other exciting shops, as well as lots of cafés. If you want to explore Danish design, clothes and accessories in one place, you shouldn't miss the Magasin department store .
    • The cozy and delicious Aarhus Street Food is located in an old bus station and is open all week.
    • If you like vintage and contemporary history, you must visit the open-air museum Den Gamle By .
    23. The Moesgård Museum not only looks exciting from the outside, but also houses a lot of contemporary history of early humanity.

    24. At Mariendal Strand Parkering you can park your camper above the dunes and enjoy the view.

    25. Odense is a big city on the island of Fügen, the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen and is said to be super child-friendly (we haven't been there ourselves yet).

    26. In Møns Klint you will find gigantic chalk cliffs and hikes along the cliffs. The Natural History Museum is also located here.

    27. The atmosphere and nature with chalk cliffs around Stevns Klint is also beautiful.

    28. Even though the island of Bornholm is closer to Sweden, it belongs to Denmark and is a small natural jewel. Untouched nature, steep cliffs and beautiful sandy beaches bring everything together on this island.

    29. If you've never been to Copenhagen , you definitely have to plan a visit to one of my favorite cities ever, especially if you love Danish design and architecture. Here are just a few things you shouldn't miss in Copenhagen:
    • The districts of Österbro , Vesterbro and Nørrebro are the young, hip districts where you can find great stores and casual cafés.
    • The Free State of Christiania in the middle of Copenhagen is something special. The free housing estate has existed since 1971 and has its own rules and its very own flair.
    • Reefing is a new food court with a great sand playground for the kids at the harbor and is definitely a must-see.
    • The best way to explore Copenhagen is by bike , as it is a cycling city like Amsterdam. You can rent bikes everywhere, maybe you can rent a cargo bike for the kids and the dog and go on a sightseeing tour on the bike paths.
    • In Copenhagen there are numerous parks and green areas like Frederiksberg that invite you to linger. In most parks, dogs are allowed on a leash. There is also a special dog park, Hundegårten Trianglen.
    • The colorful skate park Superkilen Park in Nørrebro is a cool place for older children to let off steam, but also for us adults to watch.
    • If you don't have time for the city or don't feel like the hustle and bustle of everyday camping life, you can also go on a camper sightseeing tour on your own, past Copen Hill, a ski hill on the waste incineration plant, or drive through the new districts like Amager and be inspired by the architecture.

    30. Above Copenhagen by the sea lies the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, probably the most important museum for modern and contemporary art in Denmark.

    31. In Helsingør you are already quite close to Sweden, but you can still take some time before the ferry departs, because there are many beautiful things to discover here, for example the architecturally magnificent Maritime Museum of Denmark or the Værftets Madmarked market hall with delicious food stalls and restaurants.

    32. The children's playground at Hornbæk Beach is a really great beach playground.

    33. The island of Samsø is one of the sunniest islands in Denmark. The grassy hills are criss-crossed with numerous hiking trails.
