Tips for the Ostallgäu, Oberallgäu and Unterallgäu regions
1. Paint Your Style: Paint ceramics however you like
Two women, one idea: Conny (from Berlin) and Christine (from the Allgäu region) want to awaken creativity in all visitors, young and old, in their beautiful shop in Leutkirch. Even in those who don't believe in their own artistic talent.
Because at Paint Your Style, it's not about skill, but about fun. Visitors choose an object from the huge selection of ceramic blanks, receive a detailed introduction to colors, techniques, and tools... and then simply get started!
No one is judged or condemned here; everyone can paint mugs, vases, or unicorns as they please, while having a nice chat and/or a drink.
And all this in the lovely atmosphere of Paint Your Style. Here you can and should spend a few hours relaxing and simply having fun. There are plenty of tools available, such as stamps, tape, and brushes in all sizes, and no prior experience is necessary. It was our first time here too, and we eased ourselves into it. We'll definitely be back!

2. Well protected in the German Hat Museum
The German Hat Museum in Lindenberg offers something for the whole family. Spread across four floors, visitors can stroll through 300 years of hat history, trying on hats, discovering new ones, and marveling at the displays. There are countless hats to see, and in the hat salon, you can even try them on. The exhibition answers many fascinating questions, such as: What were and are hats made of? Who designs these adornments? And are you strong enough to operate the hat press?
The hands-on corner is fantastic for children: Here they can try out the skills learned by hat makers, including painting hats, braiding, crafting stars (even with instructions), and filing patterns into a wooden block. The children especially loved the magic corner on the fourth floor. They transformed into little magicians and performed a magic trick—a hat trick, of course! We had so much fun at the Hat Museum that we completely lost track of time, and the lights were already going out.

3. Laughing uproariously at the Wangen Puppet Theatre
The Wangen Puppet Theatre is a true institution in our city. And it has been for 24 years! Puppeteer Max Buntschuh has held a puppetry license for 37 years and has been conjuring the sweetest sounds from children's mouths ever since: gurgling and laughing, giggling and shouting... watching and listening to the children at a performance is so much fun for parents!
We have long been fans of his shows and are all the more delighted that the Wangen Puppet Theatre has had a permanent venue again since September 2023. Namely, in the train station, platform 1.
As an interactive one-man show, the puppeteer takes his audience on a funny, exciting and sometimes unbelievable adventure with the help of Punch, the grandmother and of course the evil wizard.
Performances are always Tuesday to Saturday at 3 pm and Sunday at 11 am and 3 pm. Reservations by phone or email are absolutely necessary. The performances are not suitable for children under three years old. The current schedule can always be heard on the answering machine.

4th Excavator Party in the Lea Vitalhaus Salt Cave
Every Saturday at 10 a.m. and every Tuesday afternoon, children's hour takes place in the salt cave of the Lea Vitalhaus in Wangen. For 45 minutes, children can play, dig, shovel, excavate, and make friends in over 20 tons of salt – while their parents relax on the loungers in the cave.
Soft music, dimmed lighting, and a room temperature of 23 degrees Celsius create a relaxing atmosphere. But what are the benefits of a visit to the salt cave besides relaxation? The minerals and trace elements in the salt are absorbed through the skin and respiratory system with each visit, helping, for example, to loosen phlegm and relieve cold symptoms. Overall, you'll feel more invigorated immediately. Be sure to book in advance by phone and bring white socks and an appetite, as cake is served afterward in the Vital Café. Those who enjoy shopping for decorations and books will also find plenty to browse there.
Tip : There's sure to be a salt cave near you.

5. CenterParcs Indoor Playground: Fun for all ages
We've known for a long time that Center Parcs Allgäu exists in Leutkirch, since we live just a stone's throw away. But we didn't know that as a day visitor you can enjoy not only the fantastic Aqua Mundo adventure pool but also all the playgrounds – both indoors and outdoors – I only found out later that it could be used for free.
So, on the last rainy day, we tried out the Baluba indoor play area. And what can I say, the kids were thrilled! Even I, who isn't usually a fan of indoor playgrounds, was won over. The indoor play area is designed like a large jungle playground: Wooden climbing towers with tunnels, trampolines, slides, and integrated ladders stand among giant palm trees and other plants.
For younger children, there are ball pits, large LEGO bricks, and smaller climbing structures. Seating is available for parents, and a café offers snacks and drinks for everyone. The perfect outing for the next rainy afternoon is sorted!

Address : Allgäuallee 40, 88299 Leutkirch
