Tips for the Ostallgäu, Westallgäu and Unterallgäu regions
1. Walking through a cow's stomach at the Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum
Our daughter calls it the "Cow Museum", but the Allgäu Mountain Farming Museum in Diepolz near Immenstadt is much more than that!
Not far from Immenstadt and the large Alpsee lake lies the beautiful open-air museum. Nestled in the mountains, it transports visitors of all ages into the world of mountain farmers – then and now.
While sunshine is always welcome, you can easily spend a day here without missing it. Besides ancient huts and farmsteads that offer insights into the lives of mountain farmers, there are special exhibitions, a play hay barn, and a walk-through cow stomach where even adults can learn a thing or two. Everywhere you look, watching, participating, and learning are encouraged. When the weather is nice, children can let loose on the adventure playground or in the woods, or observe chickens, sheep, and other animals.
Anyone who gets hungry can stop at the historic Höfle-Alpe and enjoy the view of the Allgäu Alps.

3. Booooring! Not at the Kempten Museum
Boring museums are for other places! Visitors to the Kempten Museum can look forward to many hands-on and interactive exhibits. The Zumstein mice roam the entire exhibition, bringing Kempten's history to life for children. Want even more? The museum regularly offers fantastic workshops for children and teenagers.
Make your own soap or cook a herb soup, learn how to churn butter, or come up with funny pranks together. Get really creative by dyeing T-shirts, making paper, or crafting beeswax wraps. Bring on the next rainy day!

4. Cafe Sissi: A (dream) in pink
At Sissi Cafe in Kempten , not only the decorations, the carpet, and the photo spot are pink, but also the whipped cream on the chocolate and even some of the cakes come in all shades of pink. The selection of cakes and sweets is huge: from cakes and muffins to cake pops, there's everything a sweet tooth, young and old, could desire.
The first time we visited this charming café, my daughter was absolutely amazed. She exclaimed, "Mommy, this is my favorite café!" Not only is there a wonderful selection of delicious treats, but also plenty to admire. Besides the cakes, they also sell a variety of adorable decorations and gifts. And when it rains, it's the perfect spot in town to sip a hot chocolate and watch the raindrops on the window.

5. In the footsteps of mystical legends: Sturmannshöhle cave, Obermaiselstein
The weather outside is irrelevant inside the cave, as it's always cold, dark, and mysterious. Therefore, a visit is wonderful even in rainy weather, and the temperature difference isn't so great. The Sturmannshöhle in Obermaistelstein is the only accessible fissure cave in the Allgäu region and transports cave explorers of all ages to a fairytale world, reminiscent of Middle-earth... er... underground.
A narrow wooden staircase leads up to the cave entrance, and then a narrow cave path descends a full 300 meters underground. Down there, a cave stream babbles, and if you're lucky, you might spot a bat or two. Intrigued? Then let the adventure begin!
