Perhaps our most important place in the Sprinter?
Showers in the camper:
Our experiences & tips with shower bars
Since 2019, our beloved Sprinti – our rolling home – has accompanied us on countless adventures. Nine months in North America, three months in Scandinavia, countless weekends and road trips later, we know exactly what matters to us when living in a camper: independence, comfort, and sustainability .
One of the most frequent questions we receive about this:
Do you really need a shower in a camper?
Our answer: Yes – and how!
In this post we share our experiences about showering on the go – including tips on saving water, choosing between indoor or outdoor showers and why we rely on solid natural cosmetics.
1. Do you need a shower in a motorhome?
Of course, it depends on your travel style. Those who primarily stay at campsites can certainly manage without their own shower. But for us, it was clear: a shower on board is a game changer.
Our shower is not only a place for freshness and well-being, but also serves several purposes: shower, toilet, wardrobe (with integrated hanging rail), drying room in rain and winter.
Especially on longer trips or when camping off-grid, being able to shower at any time is invaluable – regardless of location, time or weather.

2. Indoor or outdoor shower in the camper?
Both have their advantages – and we use both!
Indoor shower : Perfect in cold weather, bad weather, or when you're parked in a parking lot. Thanks to its clever design, it also serves multiple purposes.
Outdoor shower : A true feeling of freedom – especially in beautiful, secluded spots. We simply stretch our camping blanket and accessories between the rear doors as a shower curtain and enjoy showering under the open sky. Important: Use only biodegradable soaps!
Even smaller vans, pickups or car campers can be equipped with an outdoor shower – a simple, space-saving solution for freshness on the go.

3. How much water does one use when showering in a camper?
Frugality is essential in van life. Every liter counts – not only for the sake of the environment, but also to be able to remain self-sufficient for as long as possible.
We've become real water-saving experts. On average, we use about 8 liters per shower. With long hair, it can be a few liters more – but still surprisingly little.
Fun fact: We managed our first shower together in the USA with one gallon (approx. 3.8 liters) – it was more of an extended cat bath, but it worked!

4. Is there environmentally friendly soap for travel?
Yes, and that's particularly important to us. For outdoor showers in nature, the use of biodegradable products is mandatory.
Pay attention to:
-
99.9% natural ingredients
-
Free from silicones, sulfates, and microplastics
-
No artificial fragrances or dyes
Important: Even natural soaps must not be allowed to enter bodies of water directly ! Use sandy or well-drained soil, keep your distance from lakes and rivers, and protect sensitive plants.

5. Our care products in the camper – sustainable & practical
For years, we've relied exclusively on solid care products , not just in our van – for several reasons. They don't create plastic waste, they can't leak, they're lightweight and space-saving, yet incredibly economical – ideal for travel.
