Bergwelt für die ganze Familie in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis im Tirol

We are family in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

What could be better than spending late summer in the mountains? With the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region, we've found a destination just a 2.5-hour drive from Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu region (3.5 hours from Munich). We've driven past it countless times – most recently during our AlpenX trip – but had never actually been there ourselves. Under the slogan " We are Family, " the three villages have specialized in catering to mountain-loving families. We're excited to see what awaits us in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis over the next four days, what there is to discover, and whether it truly is the most family-friendly region in the Alps.

Arrived in the idyllic mountains of Tyrol

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis mountain region

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is located in southwestern Tyrol, not far from the borders of Italy and Switzerland. With an average of 2,000 hours of sunshine per year, good weather for the many outdoor activities is practically guaranteed, and we also enjoyed nothing but sunshine during our stay at the end of August. The villages are geared towards tourism; each has its own unique and exciting character, and during peak season, there's a real wealth of activities on offer for active families like us. Those seeking a more tranquil experience can enjoy the relaxed mountain autumn during the off-season. We were particularly impressed that most accommodations and hotels are still traditionally family-run and managed with warmth, joy, and in harmony with the mountains.

Well-being for the whole family

We get to spend our nights at the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel , run by a mother and daughter who know exactly what families need for a relaxing break. Right at check-in, we receive our SUPER. SUMMER. CARD , which allows us to use all the cable cars in the network. It also takes us to the various adventure parks in the mountains, and you get discounts on many activities. We need a separate dog ticket for our Labrador, Lotta. Dogs are allowed on the cable cars and public transport, but please be sure to check the operators' regulations; sometimes a leash and/or muzzle are required. You also need a separate ticket for bikes, for example, for the bike park. SUPER. SUMMER. CARD Every guest staying at a designated partner establishment receives this for €6 per adult or €3 per child per day. And the best part: it's valid for the entire day of departure as well.

Up to the mountain!

We started our journey leisurely in the morning from Kaufbeuren and checked into our hotel in Fiss. A quick look at the lovely hotel room and then we were off, out of the hotel and into the mountains. Since it was already 3 pm, the children were too tired for a proper hike, but the 10-minute walk from the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel to the Möseralm cable car valley station, which would take us to the Fiss Summer Fun Park , was no problem at all . We were amazed by everything that awaited us up here: various marble runs, a petting zoo, water and sand playgrounds, and exciting attractions like a diving tower with a giant air cushion, the Fisser Flieger flying dragon, and the Skyswing . The last gondola down to the valley leaves at 5 pm, but we couldn't resist taking the Fisser Flitzer summer toboggan run back down – and that was a blast!

Children on cloud nine

Still with smiles on our faces , we walk back to the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel , curiously glancing at the hotels to our right and left. The selection of family-friendly hotels is extensive, so everyone is sure to find the perfect accommodation for their family holiday in the mountains here in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis . We explore our hotel first, discovering the seemingly endless array of activities for children, who are initially quite overwhelmed by the sights, sounds, rides, indoor playgrounds, and so on. The mountain air makes us hungry and content – and after dinner, we sink into our beds, happy to be here in beautiful Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis .

Wake up with a mountain view

Baby and Children's Hotel Laurentius Fiss

In Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, it's almost impossible to do otherwise, as beautiful views are guaranteed in every direction. Today we're going on a family hike along the Witches ' Trail . But first, a quick stop at the truly generous and delicious breakfast buffet at the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel , a packed lunch, and then off to the cable car. This time we're taking the Schönjochbahn to the middle station, because that's where the Witches' Trail begins, along with other beautiful hikes for all abilities.

The The Witches' Trail was conceived by Austria's most famous children's book author, Thomas Brezina – it's bound to be fantastic – and takes about 3 hours. Be sure to pick up the accompanying puzzle book with stickers for €3 at the valley station beforehand to make the trail even more exciting and engaging. Our two kids, aged 4 and 6, had a blast solving the puzzles and searching for stars to complete the magic spell. These kinds of adventure trails are simply perfect for motivating even the most reluctant little hikers. Since the trail runs mostly through the forest, it's also ideal for sunny days. However, it's not suitable for strollers, as it goes over roots and stones and along narrow paths. Alternatively, the stroller driver could walk along the forest road, but that's certainly not as exciting. Halfway along the trail, you'll find the Kuh Alm Fiss , with its small lake and playground, perfect for recharging your batteries. At the end of the hike, you can stop for a bite to eat at the Sonnenburg family restaurant. For Leo, the Margherita pizza was the perfect reward for a successful hike. Since the kids enjoy the summer toboggan run Fisser Flitzer It was so much fun that we spontaneously decided to play another round.

Cozy & Sociable

Back at the cable car station in Fiss, we stroll leisurely towards its Romansh-style village with its 600-year-old center. Five times a week, every Tuesday , the "Fest am Brunnen" (Festival at the Fountain) takes place there. Here, Tyrolean handicrafts and culinary specialties are on offer, and visitors can sit together in a convivial atmosphere, enjoying the sounds of a brass band and the mountain village ambiance. There's something for everyone to enjoy: browsing the stalls, sampling a taste of authentic Tyrolean cuisine, or treating themselves to an aperitif at 1,436 meters.

Wellness and relaxation after a day in the mountains

We're heading back to the Laurentius baby and children's hotel . The kids are eager for another dip in the family water park, which features indoor and outdoor pools, a children's pool, a baby pool, and a really fast slide. The SPAmilia is also a highlight, offering a sauna and steam room with a relaxation area for the whole family – perfect for relaxing muscles and recharging for the next day.

Ready, set, go!

Today we want to explore the high plateau by mountain bike. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Discover! We brought our own bikes, but of course, you can rent bikes (with or without electric assist) and even a child bike trailer in the village. Most of the extensive network of cycle paths starts at the valley station of the cable car in Fiss. We chose a moderate tour that Leo, our 6-year-old, can easily manage on his own, while Casper, at 4, rides with his dad. The route follows trail 7105, leading across alpine meadows and into the mountain forest, offering stunning panoramic views of the valley. Starting at such a high altitude means you get these fantastic views without any leg cramps. We do have to climb a bit, though—around 300 meters in total, easily manageable over a distance of about 16 kilometers. Depending on your fitness level or mood, you can take plenty of breaks at streams and playgrounds along the way.

Our first destination, and roughly halfway through our 8 km hike, is Wodepark & Wodeturm . From the top of the Wodeturm, you have a fantastic view of the valley and the Inn River. A little further along our route, you'll come to Wodebad, a place with a magical atmosphere: here you'll encounter giants and wizards, ants and earthworms bigger than yourself, and there are also many cozy spots to enjoy the surrounding nature.

The descent on route 7105 continues quite briskly before splitting after a few hundred meters: Franzi and Leo continue downhill towards Ladis, planning to take the gondola up to Fiss, while Marius and Casper want to burn off some more energy and take route 766 towards Fiss via Wolfsee . This adds another 200 meters of elevation gain through the mountain forest and offers more wonderful mountain views – definitely worthwhile. The real highlight for the kids, however, comes at... Wolfsee , which is actually a reservoir, is a great place to dangle your feet in the water or simply relax on one of the many loungers and benches and soak up the scenery. On the right bank, there's a large playground with a water feature for children. The day ends happily when the water is dammed and the sluice gates are opened. Unfortunately, dogs are only allowed on the other side, along the regular cycling/hiking path.

Gourmet evening without children

Back at the hotel, we stow our bikes – many hotels in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis They specialize in catering to bikers and offer secure garages and bike cleaning facilities. We enjoy a refreshing rain shower in the We arrived at the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel and briefly reviewed the day's events, but only briefly, because you'd think the kids would be tired after such a day in the saddle – not a chance. So, the kids headed straight to the buffet and then directly to the indoor adventure world . Luckily for us, they weren't seen again until dessert of our delicious five-course meal. Now, even we, as a family who usually enjoy campfires and outdoor activities, have truly appreciated the advantages of a children's hotel. Although we love every minute with our little adventurers, a dinner for two, without spills, fidgeting, or feeding, is a welcome change. We even managed a nightcap at the bar before our kids were the last ones out and we all collapsed into bed together.

Well connected in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

Well-rested, we start our last day in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis With a touch of melancholy, but much more anticipation for the day ahead. Those of us who don't have too far to travel home can... SUPER. SUMMER. CARD. Make full use of it even on the day of departure. Depending on the hotel, you can also park your car there. At ours, At the Laurentius Baby and Children's Hotel, guests can even use all hotel services until 5 pm, which is especially appealing on rainy or unpleasant days. Of course, the sun draws us outside, so we walk down to the hiking bus stop in about 10 minutes; the stop for the bus to Serfaus is directly opposite the supermarket on the main road. SUPER. SUMMER. CARD : bus travel is free. Important for everyone traveling with a dog, like us: muzzles are mandatory on the bus.

The same is true in Serfaus, home to the world's smallest and highest-altitude underground railway, which floats on air cushions. Yes, you read that right, there's an underground railway here! And it's been operating since 1985. This connection relieved traffic congestion in the village, transporting guests from the parking lot in the east to the cable cars in the west of Serfaus. At the four stations, there's plenty to discover about the underground railway, including its history and the opportunity to interactively control the little train through the mountain. Even the announcements on the underground are special; children announce the stops and when the doors open or close – incredibly charming and endearing.

Adventure park and crystal-blue bathing lake at 1,829 meters

Of the From the subway station, it's just a short walk to the Alpkopf cable car, which we 'll take to the middle station and our destination for the day: the Hög Adventure Park . At 1,829 meters above sea level, nestled amidst magnificent mountain views, lies a beautiful swimming lake, but that's not all: in the At Hög Adventure Park, children can playfully experience alpine and forestry farming and have loads of fun. There's a milk can memory game, a beehive, and an obstacle course made of pitchforks. Of course, there's also a stream to dam up and small rafts that can be rented and maneuvered through a course. Those who dare can jump into the cool water from the diving platform or take a leisurely ride in a pedal boat. Around the lake, there are plenty of places to relax, with benches, sun loungers, and barbecue areas. We doze off in the sun, cool off, and enjoy the end of a wonderful time in Hög. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis .

There's one more attraction we absolutely have to experience, as it was highly recommended by many: the ride on the "Schneisenfeger" family coaster . Like a roller coaster, you're pulled almost to the top station of the Almkopf cable car before you take the controls yourself. Then, of course, it's entirely up to you how daringly you plunge down, but the speed is definitely a lot of fun. You can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h, the curves give you butterflies in your stomach, and you can't help but shout with delight. It was a memorable farewell highlight – for us and the children.

Time to say goodbye

We're taking the cable car back down to the valley. We had originally planned to hike down the wooden ball trail , but it's just too hot today. Instead of the subway and hiking bus, we're taking the cable car and the Sunliner and Waldbahn back to Fiss this time. We really want to catch a glimpse of the bike park to prepare for our next visit. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to try it out this time, even though it's a lot of fun. Countless downhill runs of varying difficulty await every downhiller, and of course, there are also plenty of flowy singletrack trails in the mountains. We'll definitely check it out more next time.

The last four days passed almost as quickly as in the snow groomer; it was exciting and relaxing at the same time, and there really was something for everyone. The slogan " We are Family " from We can wholeheartedly endorse Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ; here you'll find both activity and relaxation. Whether you want to enjoy the idyllic mountain scenery while hiking in the summer or bravely tackle the trails of the crashes down the bike park , adrenaline rush at Family Coaster Trail Sweeper or Whether you're looking for a Fisser Flitzer or simply want to relax while stretching your legs in the Wolfsee is cooling down and the children are engrossed in one of the many activities. We'll be back again soon! See you soon in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis .
