Why we at Roadtyping really ship sustainably
Sustainable shipping is a word that you probably come across in pretty much every online shop these days. More and more shops and retailers want to contribute to climate protection and are relying on climate-neutral or sustainable shipping. But what does that actually mean? We will now explain what it means and why sustainability and sustainable shipping are particularly important to us at Roadtyping.
Sustainable shipping: The heart of the Roadtyping shop
Sustainable shipping does not mean that we deliver the packages on foot or by bike. It is also possible to send climate-friendly packages with a motorized vehicle. We have chosen DPD because this means our packages are 100 percent climate-neutral within Germany. Since we always bundle our orders and do not use express shipping, it can of course take a little longer. If it is particularly urgent, you can write us an email and we will prioritize your order. With a few exceptions, we do not make partial deliveries in order to conserve resources.
But there is a lot more to our sustainable shipping in the entire shipping process.
Packaging material: A second life for used boxes
At Roadtyping, we rely almost exclusively on second-hand boxes. We give boxes that have already been used a second life. This means that we can avoid buying new boxes for our shipping. We only buy paper envelopes. This means that we have a huge collection of different boxes from which we select the right one for your order. Yes, it is time-consuming, but we are fully committed to it. A fulfillment service provider would never go through the effort of gathering the order and considering which box is suitable, but we are happy to take on the whole task. Our packaging team collects the used boxes using short distances, but more on that later. If we need a particularly large number of boxes, for example at Christmas, a local sports shop supplies us. We pick up the used boxes from there in an electric car.
At this point, a little excursion into the past: When we first started our own business, we ran roadtyping in an apartment in an apartment building in Munich. Our warehouse and shipping facility were located in our pantry and our walk-in closet. We fished the boxes out of the three waste paper bins behind the house and recycled them, and later the magazine store supplied us with used boxes. We dragged everything up to the 6th floor and then back down again to send it off. That was a wild time that we can smile about today.
Plastic-free packaging material: recycled paper instead of polybags
Online orders often arrive in bubble wrap and sealed in plastic bags. At Roadtyping, we attach great importance to avoiding plastic in our shipments as much as possible. We use waste paper as filling material and tissue paper for wrapping, which we get from a clothing store through a family contact. We use paper tape and recycled stickers. Only posters are packaged in biodegradable cellophane. Also important: Before you receive your products plastic-free, the same applies to us. Our manufacturers also deliver the products to us without plastic packaging.
Ecologically and socially sustainable: This is how your order is packaged
Most people probably don't think about it that often, but depending on where the packages are packed, you can act more or less sustainably. We don't have our products and packages transported from A to B for packing and shipping, but ensure that everything happens in one place. With Roadtyping, your products are assembled, stored and packed in the same place, and all intermediate journeys can be done on foot - this protects the environment.
An important building block for our shipping is the collaboration with the Wertachtal workshops. Over seven years, we have developed a wonderful collaboration with a permanent group that we value very much. People who live with acquired brain damage, for example as a result of an accident or a stroke, work there. They put together your order, pack it and check everything with love and care. We see them as part of Roadtyping and are happy to be able to implement this project together with Lebenshilfe . If you would like to know more about it, you can read all about the collaboration with the Wertachtal workshops here.
Sustainable shipping as part of a philosophy of life
Our mission is to act as sustainably as possible as a small company. We want to protect what we love - namely the nature in which we all love to travel. At Roadtyping, we act sustainably out of deep conviction - not only in shipping, but also in our products and in our everyday lives.
What is of course also a particularly sustainable option: you can also pick up your order from us in Kaufbeuren. Or you can visit us at the trade fairs and markets where we regularly exhibit our products. We are always happy to see you there!
