Our favorite and quickest recipe, especially with children
Campfire bread on sticks without yeast
A campfire with children isn't always the most relaxing thing, let's be honest. That's why you need something for the kids to do around the fire, and for us, it always works great when we grill bread on sticks together. Even the search for sticks beforehand is always a fun activity for everyone.
We've tried many recipes, but this one tasted the best to us, and the best part is, it's super quick and works without yeast.
Ingredients for 3 people:
- 250 g flour (equivalent to 1 and 1/4 large enamel mugs )
- 2 heaped teaspoons of baking powder
- ½ tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 125 ml lukewarm water (equivalent to 1/2 a small enamel mug )
- 3 long sticks
Preparation:
Mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Combine with olive oil and water to form a smooth dough. The dough is very easy to knead by hand.
If desired, you can season the dough with dried rosemary, fennel seeds, etc.
Shape pieces of dough into long rolls and wrap them around suitable sticks. Bake over a fire bowl or an open campfire until brown.
Stick bread pizza
We also occasionally make stick bread pizza; for this, we spread the dough out a little finer and larger, spread it with tomato sauce and cheese, and then wrap it around the stick.
