Sommer in LAAX Baby! Action, Natur & Genuss mit Kids
Laax and Rocksresort in summer 2025: Our updated travel report

LAAX Baby – Summer in the Grisons Alps!

The headline says it all – we are absolutely stoked – explanation to follow – by this place where we were lucky enough to spend 4 days for the Flims X Falera tourism team. But let's start from the beginning:

Anyone who knows us knows we love to travel and be active in nature – we're mountain people. And every now and then we swap our campervan for a different place to stay, but only if the swap is really worthwhile. So when the inquiry from Switzerland reached us, our hearts naturally skipped a beat. Laax in the beautiful Graubünden Alps had long been known to us as a winter sports mecca, but we'd never been there. So we accepted, packed our 70 things :-) and embarked on our Rocksresort adventure.

The journey

It's late August and the weather is still wonderfully warm. From our home in the Allgäu region, it's just over a two-hour drive to the canton of Graubünden, where we're speeding up the winding roads towards Flims. Here, the Swiss mountain fairytale begins, and you can easily imagine yourself in a Heidi story. We originally planned to come by train, but our Labrador, Lotta, had injured her paw shortly before, and we wanted to give her some rest. However, getting there by public transport is incredibly easy, right to the hotel door. Arriving by electric car is also convenient: the Rocksresort's underground car park has charging stations at a reasonable price. Speaking of underground car parks: we usually can't get our Sprinter (about 3.20 meters high) into many underground garages, but here we were even able to park our vehicle – including the roof box – absolutely fantastic.

The Rocksresort Design Hotel

Arriving at Rocksresort , we check in and get a quick overview: the complex is more than just a collection of hotel rooms and holiday apartments; it's more like a microcosm for active families and board sports enthusiasts. There are currently nine buildings containing holiday apartments of varying sizes. On-site amenities include pump tracks, a skate pool, badminton and football courts, plenty of toys, a small supermarket, a bakery, sports shops, rentals, restaurants, cafés, and bars. The world's longest treetop walkway also starts here, and the Laax mountain railway gondola departs directly from the resort, taking you to the mountain station and adventure park. Laax places great emphasis on a sustainable balance between tourism and nature conservation. The resort is a member of "Responsible Hotels of Switzerland" and aims to be climate-neutral by 2030. You can find more information about their greenstyle initiatives online .

New this year : The rocksresort Park has added additional attractions such as the Ninja Park and the rocks Park Tower with Zipline & Vertical Drop.

So, fully loaded, we take the elevator to our apartment in Building D. We open the door and both start smiling before our eyes meet. Meanwhile, the boys have already rushed into the apartment, exploring every nook and cranny before settling down on the large windowsills and curiously watching the activity on campus. The rooms are modern and very cozy, with real wood surfaces combined with locally sourced stone. Our apartment has two bedrooms, one for us and another with twin beds for the boys, a living room with a fully equipped kitchen, a large sofa and a large dining table, as well as a small but really smart bathroom made entirely of stone, featuring a bathtub with a rain shower and steam room – truly ingenious. We quickly unpack our things before taking the bus to Flims town.

Trip to Flims

The public bus gets you to Flims super fast, and it's free with the guest card. There's also a LAAX app where you can find information about promotions, activities, and discounts. Our first stop is the Stenna shopping center with its lovely shops, like Ines' (Ines Essentials) with cute children's clothes, both sustainable and secondhand. After that, we head downstairs to the " Kids Freestyle Academy ," a dream come true for my 5-year-old self. Here you'll find indoor trampolines, an adventure course, a mini ramp, and a pump track. You can grab scooters, skateboards, and balance bikes with protective gear and really let loose. The kids (and their parents, too) can burn off some energy while the adults enjoy a coffee. There's also an area for the little ones with a mini slide, rocking animals, and stacking stones – perfect for unpleasant weather or sweltering summer days.

Ride, try and enjoy it

Now it's back to the resort. The kids are eager to do a few more laps on the pump track and examine all the toys in their various aluminum boxes before dinner. We enjoy a nightcap in the Rocks Lounge and watch the activity. Soon the hungry mob comes running, and we head across the street to Ikigai (formerly Nooba), a pan-Asian restaurant. The friendly staff greets us with coloring supplies for the kids – perfect so we can enjoy the Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese dishes in peace. We opt for a curry and a glass noodle salad, while the kids get fried rice and plenty of edamame. To finish, we have traditional Japanese mochi – delicious! An exciting first day in Laax comes to an end, and we fall into bed, exhausted but happy. Good night.

Good morning with a mountain view

We draw back the curtains – mountain view! The sun shines on Piz Segnas, everything is still quiet and peaceful. Before breakfast, the kids want to hop on their bikes and tear up the pump track – there wasn't enough time for that yesterday. I walk with Lotta along the grounds, through the wild bee paradise (also new), and admire how sealed surfaces are compensated for by buffer zones to preserve biodiversity. Rocks Resort. Now it's off to breakfast at the Signina Hotel – plentiful and, above all, regional.

Wanderlust with Kids

Refreshed, we take the bus towards Flims and get off at the Waldhaus stop. We bring along our homemade boats, which we plan to float on the Connbächli stream ( for our hike ). When we ask the kids if they want to hike, we hear a resounding "YES!" Nevertheless, to keep things interesting, we need some variety. We hike almost 3 km along the Connbächli to Conn – a picturesque stream, enough current for small boats, beautiful forest, and enchanting paths. After a good 2.5 hours, we reach Conn, a restaurant serving regional specialties. The pear ravioli there is a must-try. Next, we head to the Il Spir observation tower, which towers above the Rhine Gorge – offering a magnificent panoramic view. (If you're not afraid of heights, it's really worth it!)

A warm mountain lake? That doesn't exist.

The path leads us back to Lake Cauma (Bogn La Cauma). From the parking lot, you can also take a funicular railway to the swimming area. The turquoise mountain lake is idyllically nestled, and this summer we found it pleasantly warm – often up to around 24°C , making it particularly child-friendly – ideal for a refreshing dip. There is an entrance fee, but discounts are often available with a guest card. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed in the swimming area. After swimming and eating, we take the funicular railway back to the Waldhaus bus stop and then return to the resort.

Cozy cabin dinner

After a day's hike, we set off for Tegia Larnags – a rustic mountain hut serving traditional Swiss cuisine. We ordered Capuns (a vegetarian option) and quark-filled Pizokels, and enjoyed our meal. The Capuns (chard rolls with plums, apricots, and cheese in cream broth) were particularly memorable. The air was fresh, the wine delicious, and the children tired – the perfect end to a day.

Up the mountain!

The mist drifts across the mountain slopes as I take Lotta for an early morning stroll around the grounds. It's quiet, the world seems magical. The first rays of sunlight illuminate the slide tower of the treetop walkway. The children rush ahead for breakfast – today is a big action day: we take the gondola and cable car up, grab hiking poles (which are free), and off we go to the trails and viewpoints.

The adventure world at the Galaxy Mountain Station is huge: mini ramp, pump track, skateboard/scooter/balance bikes with helmets, ninja park, trampolines & airbags. Next time we're there, we'll definitely bring our bikes and use the many mountain bike trails.

Delicious treats at 2,252 m

Once we reached the top, we fortified ourselves at Capalari : a vegan burger in a pink bun – the kids loved it, and so did we. Afterwards, we enjoyed the view. Before dark clouds caught up with us, we took a look around the mountain station building – vintage record players, old neon signs, movie posters: a cool mix of nostalgia and creativity.

Legendary treetops

Back in the valley: we walk the "Senda dil Dragun" treetop path – the longest in the world. The path is approximately 1.56 km long and connects Laax Murschetg with Laax Dorf. Along the way, there are interactive platforms, marble run installations, and fascinating information about nature and history. The children love that there's something new to discover on every platform. At the end: a slide from the tower – chaos and fun guaranteed.

Bella Italia at the Signina Hotel

In the evening, our breakfast spot transforms into the Italian restaurant Camino . Wood-fired pizza, delicious cheese, good conversation, candlelight, rain pattering outside – perfectly cozy. Casper is ecstatic when his pizza gets "ears" – sometimes it's the little things.

We enjoy an evening ritual in the steam room – pure relaxation.

Splash Fun

It's pouring rain on Sunday morning – a bit of a shame, but also cozy. Staying indoors isn't an option: Franzi and Leo have a bike training session to improve their downhill tricks, balance, braking technique, etc. Casper is tearing around on the pump track and discovering puddles.

We brave the rain a little longer, retreat to our room, the children jump into the stone bathtub, we enjoy tea and peace – small breaks, big impact.

Goodbye beautiful Rocks Resort

For the late checkout, we tidied our apartment, stowed our luggage, and reflected: We'll be back. Everything just fit together so perfectly: accommodation, food, activities – from hiking and cycling to freestyle and nature. The kids felt right at home – and so did we. Thank you for this wonderful time, the perfect organization, and the many magical moments. See you next winter!
