These cinnamon rolls turn out perfectly anywhere in the world.
I think I'm right in saying that cinnamon rolls are our absolute favorite among everyday baked goods. If not, I'd love to know your everyday favorite, so please send me an email :-)
The most delicious cinnamon rolls in Stockholm
When we traveled through Sweden in the summer of 2024, a stop in the Swedish capital, Stockholm ( here's a link to our blog post about Stockholm ), was a must. Here you can find sweet pastries in every imaginable form, and they all taste delicious. We found the cafes in the Sufo district to be the most charming in the capital.
Baking cinnamon rolls in your camper is easy
Because they taste so heavenly, this camping cinnamon roll recipe absolutely has to be included here, and it's super easy to make in a campervan. We perfected this cinnamon roll recipe in the Omnia oven during our trip through Scandinavia and baked it countless times, as Sweden and Norway always make you crave cinnamon rolls. They're also perfect for a snack in your lunchbox while hiking. Ideally, brew yourself a pot of coffee in an insulated bottle to go with them, and your fjord fika will be complete.
By the way, I always make our cinnamon rolls vegan by default, and they are soooo moist and fluffy!
Ingredients:
For the cinnamon rolls from the Omnia oven you will need:
Tip: Weighing recipes in your camper is super easy with our "enamel cup scale", check it out here for the camping scale .
Yeast dough for cinnamon rolls:
- 2 enamel cups of flour
- 1.5 - 2 enamel mugs warm milk alternative
- 2 heaped tablespoons of margarine
- 1 packet of dry yeast
For the filling:
- cinnamon and sugar
- margarine
If you fancy some frosting:
- (Vegan) Cream cheese approx. 150g ≈ 1/2 tub
- (Vegan) butter or cream approx. 75g ≈ this is about right, the frosting should not be too runny
- Sugar approx. 1-2 tbsp, sweeten to taste
Preparation:
Preparation of yeast dough:
- Briefly warm the milk or milk alternative on the (gas) stove.
Pour two enamel cups of flour into a large bowl.
- Sprinkle dry yeast over the flour.
- First add about half the milk and mix it in. Then add the rest little by little.
The consistency of the dough:
I've really worked extensively on my yeast dough over the last few years, so here's the most important thing: you can use any flour, but not all flour is created equal, so the recipe is always a bit variable. Try to get the dough to the consistency of jelly, but not too wet; it should pull away from the spoon and fall back into the bowl (it should pull away, not flow or fall :-)
The dough will become firmer, and you can work in a little more flour later. Whole wheat flour needs a bit more liquid.
Let go:
The longer the dough has to rise, the moister and fluffier your finished baked goods will be. For cinnamon rolls, 1-2 hours of rising time is sufficient.
Place the wobbly yeast dough, covered, in a warm spot in your camper, for example, on the windshield. If it's cold or the sun isn't shining, we have a great vanlife hack: Place the bowl with the dough on a Stoov cushion or Stoov pad (if you're not familiar with Stoov, check it out here), turn it on, and cover everything with a sleeping bag/blanket.
After half an hour, fold and shape the dough once, or gently and very briefly knead it, and let it rise for another half hour. Then fold and shape it again and let it rise for at least another half hour.

Prepare the Omnia:
Before you tackle the dough and end up with flour-covered hands, prepare the Omnia camping oven dish. I personally don't particularly like the silicone insert for baking, so I grease the Omnia dish generously with margarine and keep it within easy reach.

Shape cinnamon rolls:
Get your dough and a little more flour, as it will be somewhat sticky. Sprinkle some flour over the dough and knead it lightly again. Then flour your hands and divide the dough into approximately 8-10 pieces.
With well-floured hands, take each piece of paper one by one, place it on your hands, and shape it into a rectangle. You can easily do this with your hands, and you don't need a rolling pin, as I doubt you have one in your camper :-)
Generously spread margarine onto the rectangle of yeast dough and sprinkle generously with cinnamon and sugar. Now roll up the dough and place it in the well-greased Omnia pan. Gradually fill the pan evenly, piece by piece.
Let the shaped cinnamon rolls rise again in the Omnia oven for at least 10 minutes; if you have time, let them rise for a good half hour until they have risen nicely. Now place the Omnia on the gas stove and bake for 20-30 minutes.

Frosting Topping:
If you're still in the mood for the delicious frosting, mix all the ingredients together and spread it over the warm cinnamon rolls. If you have a blender like we do (we always have this little WMF one with us, since we cook a lot and the kids especially love smoothies), you can grind the sugar into powdered sugar in it first, then whip the cream and mix everything together with the cream cheese.
Bon appetit!
